Signatory Vintage Scotch Whisky사는 회사의 이름 그대로, Scotch Whisky를 생산하는  

Highland, Speyside, Islay, Lowland 등의 여러 증류소들의 가맹으로 이루어진 회사입니다. 

이 가맹에 가입한 각 증류소에서는 각자의 Single Malt Whisky를 Signatory라는 회사명과

자신의 증류소명을 붙여서 생산합니다.

이 회사는 1988년에 설립하였으며, 1980년대 후반에 들어와서 본격적으로 증류소 단위의

이때, 위스키 생산 및 판매 회사에서 각 증류소의 위스키들 중에서 그들이 필요한 일부의 위스키

만을 집중적으로 매입해감으로써 (각 위스키 회사의 제품 특성상), 상대적으로 영세한 증류소들은

오랫동안 보존해온 많은 양의 나머지 위스키들을 어떤 방식으로든지 처분하지 않으면 안되게

되었던 것입니다.

일부 증류소는 이미 문을 닫은 상태에서도 남은 원액들이 모두 팔릴 때까지 위와 같이

Signatory사와 같은 이름으로 병입하여 판매하고 있습니다. (Banff, Glen Albyn 등등)

위스키를 병입하여 생산, 판매하는 회사는 대규모 위스키 회사 외에도,

Dalwhinnie Whisky (달위니 위스키)의 생산지역에 대한 논쟁이 뜨겁습니다.

Dalwhinnie Whisky가 Highland Malt Whisky인지, 아니면 Speyside Malt Whisky인지에 대한 논쟁이

지난 2007년 11월 부터 영국의 Whisky Magazine에서 뜨겁게 벌어지고 있습니다.

그 이유는 지난 2007년 8월 30일에 사망한 위스키 전문가인 Michael Jackson이 발간했던 Malt Whisky Companion

책자에서 Dalwhinnie Whisky의 생산지역을 Speyside라고 소개했기 때문입니다.

이는 명백한 오류입니다.

Dalwhinnie Whisky는 그 어디에도 Speyside Malt Whisky라고 언급한 적이 없습니다.

Dalwhinnie Whisky는 증류소 소개 자료와 위스키 라벨에도 Highland Malt Whisky라고 명시하고 있습니다.

또한, 영국의 SWA (Scotch Whisky Association)에서 만든 증류소 지도에도 Dalwhinnie Distillery는

Highland 지역에 속해 있으며, 실제로도 Speyside 지역과는 상당히 멀리 떨어져 있습니다.

위의 지도에서 보시는 것처럼, Speyside 지역은 Highland 지역에 포함되어 있습니다.

따라서, Speyside 지역은 Highland 지역의 부분이지만, 역으로 Highland 지역을 Speyside 지역이라고 할 수는

없습니다.

참고로, Dalwhinnie Distillery는 1897년에 설립되었습니다.

1905년에 미국의 회사에 팔렸으며, 1920년대 미국의 금주령으로 인해 외국에 있는 주류공장에 대한

투자가 금지되어 다시 영국의 스코틀랜드인 소유로 되었습니다.

1934년 화재로 인해 4년간 생산을 중지하였으며, 1938년에 재가동 하기 시작하였지만,

다시 1940년에 2차 세계대전으로 인해 영국 정부에서 보리사용을 금지하는 바람에 7년간

생산을 중단하였다가 1947년에 다시 생산을 재개하였습니다.

현재는 Diageo 그룹이 소유하고 있습니다.

Dalwhinnie Distillery는 스코틀랜드에서 가장 높은 곳이 위치한 증류소 입니다.

Dalwhinnie (달위니)는 Gaelic (게일)어로 Meeting Place (회의장 : 가축 몰이꾼들의 집합장소) 라는 의미입니다.

Hennessy, a spirits division of LVMH's Moët Hennessy, released a $200,000 bottle of Beaute du Siecle

earlier this year, only 100 of which will be available.

It's the house's best blend, of course.

But the exorbitant price is mostly a function of the extraordinary bottle the liquor comes in, which was designed

by the contemporary French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel.

Each collectible bottle comes with four gold-leaf adorned glasses which are housed in an aluminum-and-glass

chest decorated with two colored Venetian glass beads.
