이 위스키는 지난 1913년 제품생산을 중단한 웨스턴 아일랜드의 넌즈 아일랜드 디스틸러리

(Nun's Island Distillery)사가 생산한 위스키 제품 중 마지막 한 병 이었습니다.

위스키 전문가인 켄 토머스씨는 로이터통신과의 인터뷰에서 "10만파운드는 분명 엄청난

액수지만 이 위스키는 전 세계에서 가장 희귀한 제품 중 하나" 라고 확신했습니다.

토머스씨는 처음 이 위스키의 원래 주인인 한 여성이 낡은 가방에 담긴 병을 들고 들어오면서

"충분한 가치를 지니고 있는 제품" 이라고 말했다며 "위스키를 자세히 들여다 볼수록

흥분을 감출 수 없었다"고 전했습니다.

잉글랜드 북서부에서 주류상점을 운영하는 그는 현재 자신의 웹사이트에 이 제품을 올려 둔

상태이며, 아직까지 판매되지 않고 있기때문에 실제로 가장 비싼 위스키라고 하기에는 조금

이른 감이 있습니다.

또한, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Monaco는 실질적으로 최고의 가치를 지니고 있지만,

선물용으로 제작된 비매품이므로, 판매가격을 기준으로 순위를 정할 수 없습니다.

The last surviving bottle from Irish distillery Nun’s Island has gone up for sale with a

price tag of £100,000.

Which if sold, will become the world’s most expensive bottle of whisky.

The single malt whisky dates from the late 1800s, Nun’s Island Distillery in County

Galway was mothballed 1913.

A bottle of malt whiskey from the Nuns' Island Distillery which closed in 1913 has turned

up in a wine and whiskey specialist shop in England and is expected to reach £100,000

when it is sold in the coming months.

"Dating from the late 1800s, it is believed to be one of the rarest bottles of malt whiskey in

the world, according to Kenneth Thomas, proprietor of the shop near Swindon.

'A customer brought it in in a carrier bag about three years ago,' he says.

'She left the bottle with me in the hope that I could find out some more about it.'

Mr Thomas put a price tag of ₤20,000 on it, but after further investigation, and the

realisation that it is probably the only bottle left from the Nuns Island Distillery, it is

now priced at a staggering ₤100,000, but this is negotiable, he says."

(실제 구입가격 = 낙찰가 + 15% 수수료 + VAT => 24,282.3 파운드)

2005년에는 영국의 Edrington Group 소유의 Skibo Castle에서 열린 자선경매에서 $75,000 에

낙찰되기도 하였으며, 이 술은 우리나라의 한 사업가가 경매에서 구입하여, 실제 물건은 서울 강남의

한 백화점 주류매장에서 인수하였습니다.

238 리터의 Hogshead Cask (Cask No.= 263)에서 1926년 부터 1986년 까지 60년간 숙성된

Highland Speyside 지역의 Single Malt, Single Cask Scotch Whisky 입니다.

총 40병이 생산되었으며, 그 중 26병만을 판매하였으며, 판매된 26병 중에서 12병만이 미개봉

상태로 남아있다고 합니다.

1926년에 증류하여 1986년에 병입하였으며, 1991년에 6,250 파운드로 당시 세계 최고가를 기록

하였으며, 다시 1996년에는 12,100 파운드에 판매되어 세계기록을 갱신하였습니다.

1991년에 6,250 파운드로 이 술을 구입한 사람은 일본 오사카에서 바를 경영하는 사람이었으며,

지금도 그 바에 전시되어 있습니다.

5위 - Glenavon Whisky  7 Years Old

(현존하는 최고령 병입년도 위스키 - 150년전 병입) 

Northern Ireland의 Armagh에 사는 한 부인이 1920년대 부터 자신의 할머니집에서 수대째

보관하고 있던 약400ml의 올리브 그린색 병에 담긴 위스키를 경매에 내놓았습니다.

이 위스키는 수대에 걸쳐서 가문 대대로 물려져 온 것이라고 합니다.

따라서, 이 위스키는 최고 7년 정도 숙성 시킨 위스키이며, 병에 담겨진 해가 1858년 이전 입니다.

병입을 약 150년 전에 한것이며, 자칫 150년 숙성 위스키로 혼동하시지 않기를 당부드립니다.

이 위스키는 지난 2006년 11월 29일 런던의 Bonhams 경매장에서 14,850 파운드에 낙찰되었습니다.

Glenavon Special Liqueur Whisky

A bottle of whisky which experts believe could be the oldest in existence has sold

at a Bonhams auction house in London for £14,850.

The Glenavon Special Liqueur Whisky is believed to have been bottled about 150 years

ago at the Glenavon Distillery, which was located in Banffshire.

There was gobal interest in the sale, with bidders from the Far East and US.

The bottle, which has been owned by an Irish family for generations, eventually went

to an anonymous bidder.

The bottle has been in the family of a woman in Ireland for several generations.

The bottle has been put up for sale by a woman from County Armagh in Northern Ireland,

whose family has had it for generations.

Bonhams is maintaining client confidentiality, but said the woman remembers the bottle

being in her grandmother's home in the 1920s.

The green bottle is unusually small in size and holds about 14fl oz (about 400ml) of

pale gold liquid.

It is believed to have been bottled by the Glenavon Distillery between 1851 and 1858.

However, uncertainty surrounds its exact age.

The label reads "Glenavon - Special Liqueur Whisky Bottled by the Distillers," but

Glenavon stopped operating in the 1850s.

Experts have said that if the whisky was indeed "bottled by the distillers", it could be

the oldest to come to auction.

The Glenavon Distillery was licensed to John Smith, son of George Smith, founder of the

nearby Glenlivet Distillery.

John Smith joined his father in the business in 1846 and established a small distillery

at Delnabo in 1849.

Bonhams' consultant Charles MacLean said: "It has been suggested that Delnabo and

Glenavon may have been one and the same.

"What is certain is that the Smiths closed Delnabo in 1858, and in the following year they

consolidated all their distilleries - including Glenavon/ Delnabo - at Minmore, the site of

the present Glenlivet Distillery."

Mr MacLean said the label implied that it was bottled before the move to Minmore.

"Yet even if it had been bottled by the Smiths after the closure of Glenavon, authentic

bottles of Scotch from the 1870s are extremely rare," he said.

"John Smith died in 1901, so we know it was bottled before then."
