Grande Champagne Cognac을 담아 1888병만을 한정 생산하여, 2005년 9월 14일 출시
하였습니다.
이 꼬냑에는 1888년 이전에 증류하여 Chateau de Fontpinot의 Paradis에 보관하던 꼬냑도
일부 사용되었습니다.
1888년은 Pierre Frapin이 Phylloxera (포도뿌리혹벌레)로 인해서 망가진 포도밭을
미국 텍사스주의 병충해에 강한 포도품종과 접붙인 Folle Blanche 품종으로 다시
복구한 해이며, 1889년 파리의 에펠타워 (Eiffel Tower) 준공식에 참석을 준비하던
해 입니다.
병마개와, 병 주위를 Etains d’Anjou가 만든 24K 금마개와 금선으로 장식하였습니다.
케이스 하단의 서랍에는 1888년 당시의 시계를 재현하여 넣었으며, 이 시계를 열면
아주 특별한 향수가 뿜어져 나오도록 되어 있습니다.
건조 과일, 호두, 헤이즐넛 향과, 건포도, 오얏, 오렌지 향 등이 완벽한 조화를 이루며,
균형 있고 산뜻한 Grande Champagne의 이상적인 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.
Frapin의 꼬냑들은 모두 Grande Champagne 지방의 Frapin 자체의 포도농장에서 생산한
포도를 자체의 증류소에서 증류한 고품질의 꼬냑으로 다른 꼬냑에 비해서 중후한 향과 맛이
그 특징입니다.
원래 Cuvee (끼베)란 한 통속에서 숙성 시킨 술 (위스키의 Single Barrel)을 의미합니다.
그러나, 여기서는 특급주라는 의미 입니다.

Cognac Frapin Cuvee 1888 is probably the rarest blend of cognac to be launched in many years.
It is selected from the most precious stock, some of which even predates 1888, passed down
through the generations and a tribute to the extraordinary achievements of company founder Pierre
Frapin, the original owner of one of the leading Grande Champagne Premier Grand Cru vineyards
in Cognac.
In 1888 he replanted the vineyard decimated by phylloxera with American rootstock from Denison
Texas.
That same year, he was preparing to participate in the World Fair of 1889 in Paris.
As Gustave Eiffel was entering the final stages of construction of his famous tower, Pierre Frapin
was busy selecting the cuvee that would be awarded a gold medal.
This Gold Medal is still kept in the "Eiffel Cellar" at the Frapin estate in Segonzac, where Eiffel
was subsequently commissioned to design a commemorative “chai” which today remains a local
landmark.
A blend of very old Grande Champagne cognacs distilled on their lees and kept in the tranquil dark
cellars of the Chateau de Fontpinot, Cuvee 1888 has superb floral notes of the Folle Blanche
grape, which is no longer used for making cognac.
The Cuvee, composed by Olivier Paultes who has been house cellar master for the last 20 years,
shows amazing character.
Powerful yet subtle, it combines history with blending expertise resulting in a tribute to Cognac’s
Grande Champagne Premier Grand Cru vineyards.
“Breeding, distinction, a sumptuous bouquet and profound sensuousness are the hallmarks of this
exceptional cognac.” Says Beatrice Cointreau, Cognac Frapin CEO.
“Its highly complex aromas show notes of dried fruit, walnuts and hazelnuts, raisins and prune
with candied orange and enchanting balsamic, roasted, toasty notes of cocoa and tonka beans
and coffee.
The heart is a sublime harmony of vine flowers with a splash of everlasting flowers mingling with
the sweetness of linden on a background of pepper, sweet spice, summer flower honey and
vanilla, leather and precious woods.”
Such a rare Frapin Cognac could only be housed in a fine crystal decanter ? and this is designed
in the shape of a spinning top.
“It is like the ones used on board the ships that exported cognac around the world and whose
curves reflect the smoothness of the cognac inside.” Adds Beatrice Cointreau.
“Fashioned from blown glass at the Cristalleries Royales de Champagne, the decanter has a 24
carat fine gold thread that winds around it, representing the spiral of time, cognac swirling in the
glass and whisps of steam emerging from the still.
A world of heady emotions!
This spiralling thread and the 24 carat fine gold stopper were made by Les Etains d'Anjou.”
The decanter is contained in a decorative wooden gift box.
A small drawer in the base holds an unusual fob watch with a flick mechanism, a reproduction of a
model designed in 1888, gilded with fine gold.
When the lid is opened, the watch reveals a solid perfume concentrate of the Pierre Frapin
fragrance for the home.
“This perfume will create the ideal scent environment in which to savour this unique cognac.”
She adds.
A limited edition of only 1,888 of these 700 ml decanters in wooden gift boxes will be produced,
ensuring that they become collectors’ items.

The 1888 Vintage the secret of the rarest elixirs
An exceptional carafe, a jewel of crystal preserving the secret of a rare vintage.
The assemblage of this ‘Cuvée 1888’ is from Cognacs ageing in our ‘Paradise’ storehouse.
Some of these Cognacs are even older than 1888.
They have aged for so many generations and are a testimony to the mastery of the late
and great Monsieur Pierre Frapin.
Offered in a limited series of 1888 bottles, the carafe-type bottle was inspired as a homage
to Pierre Frapin.
In 1888, with a vineyard successfully rejuvenated, he prepared his participation at the Universal
Exhibition, for which Gustave Eiffel had just completed his famous tower.
Pierre Frapin selected some of his ‘cuvées’ and received the Gold Medal at this famous exhibition.
This Gold Medal is still on display and preciously so, in the Eiffel Storehouse of our Château.
An emotional encounter with the mythic Folle Blanche.
This assemblage of very old Grande Champagne Cognacs is in fact cognacs issued from the mythic
Folle Blanche varietal, a varietal that has completely disappeared in modern times.
This Folle Blanche lives up to its myth: surprising floral aromas, it’s a Cognac both powerful and subtle.
It is a celebration as it is a flourishing achievement of ancestral know-how.
A rich palette of sensations
Of great distinction, this Cuvée develops a sumptuous and profound sensuality.
Its aromatic palette is astonishingly complex: dried fruits, nuts, raisins, prunes, candied oranges,
and towering waves of torrified cacao, tonka beans and coffee.
The heart of its character is a sublime harmony of vineyard flowers, a flash of sents of the
lime tree, pepper, soft spices, white honey, vanilla, leather, and tropical woods.
The Astonishing Crystal carafe
For this historic Cuvée, Frapin Cognac has commissioned the design of an original carafe of elegant
and pure form.
Produced by the Cristalleries Royales de Champagne, the carafe is decorated by a 24 carat golden line.
Its spiral shape recalls Cognac’s slow ageing through time or the preparatory turning of cognac in a glass.
The Etains d’Anjou created this golden line as also they did the golden cork.
The refinement of a sumptuous Gift Box
Presented in a highly refined Gift Box of a ‘Cognac cellar’ form.
The wood textures recall the warm atmospheres of Cognac and Habana cigars.
Its base contains a small draw where one will find a reproduction of a 1888 watch.
Opening the watch a special perfume is released, ideal to accompany tastings.
