Nose
Perfumy maltiness. Fragrant smoke. What the nose promises, the palate delivers.
Palate
Silky. Very full flavours, but very light on their feet. It is the interplay and dexterity that captivates. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers? Billie Holiday and Lester Young?
Finish
Dry, oaky, more-ish.
Comment
A work of craftsmanship, elegance and its own style.

Dave Broom

Nose
Slightly shy to start. Subtle notes of dried mushroom (cep), casks, dried flowers, graphite, bitter orange, tea caddy tobacco leaf. Ever-changing and mature.
Palate
Dry and elegant. Seems fragile and old but with real character, thena startling orange lift and a tickle of smoke.
Finish
Dried peels and nuts.
Comment
Fragile but fascinating.

Royal Salute 50-Year-Old is a blend of robust and powerful whiskies, each matured in oak casks

for at least 50 years, resulting in a deep and sumptuous whisky of unrivalled excellence.

Its nose is comprised of rich, sweet, fruity aromas balanced with a deep floral oakiness and soft,

smoky nuttiness.

It has full, sweet, floral and fruity raisin flavors, enhanced with a smoky sweetness and nutty oakiness.

For 50 years, Royal Salute 21-Year-Old had been bottled in a custom-designed, porcelain flagon

from Wade of England.

With the 50-Year-Old, Chivas selected a new porcelain flagon from Wade of England and adorned it

with a handcrafted plaque, in lieu of the traditional paper label, made from silver and gold.

The result is a deep-blue porcelain flagon, adorned with a hand-chased and engraved plaque of

silver and 24-carat gold.

Each one is sealed with a gold and silver stopper, and is numbered and hallmarked by the London Assay Office.

There are only 255 bottles available worldwide, and 10 have been available in the U.S since the fall.

Prime's owns the only bottle available on premises, at the modest price of $ 1,200 a shot.

If you're looking to get a Valentine's gift, don't worry.

Royal Salute 50-Year-Old costs only $12,000 a bottle.

New York - Pernod Ricard USA announces the release of a crowning achievement in blended

Scotch whisky making - Royal Salute 50-Year-Old.

The release of this extremely rare and limited edition of Royal Salute from the makers of Chivas

Regal coincides with the 50th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

The history of Chivas Brothers and the British royal family dates back to 1843 and continued

into this century with the creation of Royal Salute as a tribute to the new Queen at the time of

her coronation.

The original Royal Salute is a 21 year-old, exceptionally aged, blended Scotch whisky, created

from Chivas Brother's unrivalled stocks of matured Scotch whisky.

On June 2nd, 1953, the day of the coronation, the Royal Salute flagons were filled and sealed.

The first bottle was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the remaining flagons were

spread to the world, making Royal Salute a best seller and an ultimate tribute in Scotch whisky making.

In anticipation of a 50-year anniversary of the Queen's coronation and the bottling of the Royal

Salute, Chivas Brothers began setting aside special stocks of their finest whiskies to realize the

vision of one day producing the world's most exceptionally aged Scotch whisky.

In 1993, Master Blender Colin Scott called for those precious stocks to be brought together and

blended with a cask of Strathisla malt whisky, which was filled in 1949, and set aside at the

coronation ceremony.

This blend of the finest and oldest whiskies was put into a specially selected cask - anointed

the Coronation Cask - to 'marry' and was returned to the warehouse at Strathisla.

Chivas Brothers waited patiently and then, in 2003 as the Queen prepared to celebrate 50 years

since she was crowned, Chivas Brothers summoned the Coronation Cask and bottled the most

powerful and exceptionally matured Scotch whisky - Royal Salute 50-Year-Old.

This fine Scotch whisky - the product of years of expertise and a tradition of selecting and

reserving the most special whiskies - is a blend of robust and powerful whiskies each matured

in oak casks for a minimum of 50 years, resulting in a deep and sumptuous offering of

unrivalled excellence.

The first bottles of the Royal Salute 50-Year-Old will arrive in New York City on June 25, 2003 via

the historic cruise liner Queen Elizabeth 2.

With only 255 bottles worldwide, ten will be available in the U.S beginning in the fall.

Widely regarded as the world's most famous ship, Cunard Line's QE2 is celebrating her

farewell season of trans-Atlantic crossings in 2003.

Beginning in April 2004 the venerable vessel will be replaced on the trans-Atlantic route by the

line's new $780-million Queen Mary 2, currently in the final stages of construction in France.
