원래 Glenfiddich 21 Havana Reserve는 Cuba의 Sancti Spiritus 증류소에서 생산한 Cuba산

Rum을 영국으로 수입한 후, Scotland의 Glenfiddich 증류소에서 그 빈통에 21년 숙성 시킨

Glenfiddich 위스키를 담아서 3개월 동안 추가 숙성 시킨 Single Malt Scotch Whisky 이며,

유럽의 전문점 가격은 700ml 기준 84 파운드 (= $ 110) 이며, 면세점 가격은 $ 82 정도 입니다.

 

그런데, 이 술은 Cuba의 수도인 Havana 라는 이름이 들어갔다는 이유로 미국과 일부 국가에서는

수입을 금하고 있습니다.

그래서 이 술의 이름을 새롭게 바꾼 것이 Glenfiddich 21 Gran Reserva 입니다.

 

Cuba산 Rum Cask 대신에 Caribbean Rum Cask를 사용하여 추가 숙성 시킨 Glenfiddich 21

Gran Reserva가 2006년 9월 부터 미국에 수입이 허용되었습니다.

Glenfiddich resurrects the lost tradition of maturing in rum casks with this Glenfiddich

Gran Reserva 21 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky.

Rum distillers from Sancti Spiritus, near the Sierra del Escambray in the heart of Cuba,

worked with us to develop this unique Cuban rum finish.

We decant casks of Cuban rum at our distillery in Scotland and fill them with 21 Year Old

Glenfiddich to absorb the unique character lingering in the wood.

Then we wait for our Malt Master to give his blessing for bottling - at the precise moment

when the unmistakable Glenfiddich flavour reveals a new and vibrant overtone.

Tasting Notes

Michael Jackson Nose Toasty. Biscuity. Petits fours. Palate Vanilla flan. Sweet Cuban coffee. Finish Juicy. A hint of dried tropical fruits. Comment The less pronounced rum character of the two Caribbean accented whiskies in this tasting. When you cook, do you want the herbs and spices to announce themselves individually, or to be part of the blend of flavours? David Stewart seems usually to opt for the latter, and does so with great deftness and sophistication.

Dave Broom Nose Rich and rounded with clean malty notes. Chocolate, caramelised banana, some citric notes, orange pulp, toffee and spice. Palate The chocolate comes back giving a sweet, balanced dram. Good mature malt character. Finish Chocolate, coffee and orange peel. Comment Good balance with the rum at no point overwhelming the whisky. American readers will have to smuggle it into the country along with their Cohibas.
